ESL Program Mission

Our ESL Program’s mission is to teach students how to function in an English language-based academic environment on a daily basis. This includes learning all speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar, vocabulary, and academic success skills that are required in order to successfully attend classes and study for a degree at a university in an English-speaking country.

ESL Program Levels

Level 1: Beginners

This course is for students who only know basic phrases in English and are unable to speak and/or write sentences in the English Language.

Students will be taught strategies to speak for 1-2 minutes in English without needing to stop and look for words in a dictionary. Students will also learn how to write a 100-150 word paragraph in English on a main idea using the main 4 types of sentences used in the English language.

General listening, reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills will also be taught to support students’ speaking and writing objectives.

Level 2: Intermediate

This course is for students who can already speak for 1-2 minutes and write a 1-paragraph-essay in the English language.

Here, Students will learn the skills needed to speak for 5-7 minutes while presenting information in English and be taught the strategies needed to speak English for general purposes. Students will also learn how to write different types of paragraphs with a final objective of writing a 300-400 word essay by the end of this course.

General listening, reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills will be included in the coursework so that students can meet their future speaking and writing objectives.

Level 3: Advanced

This course is for students who can already give short presentations and write 3 to 4-paragraph essays in English.

Students will learn the strategies and background knowledge required to speak English in an academic environment on a daily basis. Students will also learn how to write 6-8 paragraph persuasive essays offering their opinion to change the point of view of the reader.

General listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, note-taking, and academic success skills will be included in the course so that students can meet their future speaking and writing objectives.
